Before creating beautiful home goods Jo Ellen Stammen was a fine artist and children's book illustrator. Her training and success – 15 published titles, including a Caldecott nomination and Christopher Award – are evident in the distinctive sensibility of her designs; each tell a story or portray a unique perspective. Located in a picturesque village on the coast of Maine, natural beauty and tranquility are drawn into the forms and figures of her heirloom rugs and pillows.

After her debut line to the trade met with much success in 2007 Jo Ellen quickly opened a small boutique in Camden with her daughter Jessica. The two share a vision of doing much more than business as usual.

They desire to sustain a shared value of beauty and "good craft" in all they do and in all that their items will bring into your home – from the locations where they are made, to the people who make them, to the materials used, to how they reinvest financial and creative capital locally, nationally and internationally.

Right now they are committed to donating 10% of all their profits after tax to charity and local scholarship funds. They expect this number to grow.

They also continue to develop wonderful relationships with the non-profit organizations that benefit from their Designs for Good! program through which designated organizations receive a portion of each rug and pillow sale.

In their shop on Main Street Jo Ellen and Jessica cultivate a space where the eyes and the heart can be entertained and inspired. Whether a customer comes to shop, or a visitor to Camden learns that the art of hand hooking began “right here,” or an artist wants to share an idea, or a high school student comes to be mentored, Jo Ellen and Jessica love the community, connections, and conversations that make their space a real place!
